The death of a loved one is a heart wrenching experience, the Management and Support Staff of Nelson's Funeral Home sadly announce the death of Mrs. Alberta Harrison Adams,74, of Ridgeway, South Carolina. 

Mrs.  Adams peacefully transitioned into eternity Tuesday, July 4, 2017.

Funeral services for Mrs. Adams will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017, 1:00 p.m. at White Oak Baptist Church #1, 520 White Oak Road, Winnsboro, SC 29180.

We pause to pay tribute to the memory of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, Alberta Harrison Adams.  “Bert,” as she was fondly called, departed this life on July 4, 2017-6:59 p.m. at Agape Hospice House in Columbia, SC.

We do not know what the day was like on November 17, 1942 when Alberta was born to the late Brownie and Hanna Belton Harrison.   We believe it might have been a beautiful, breezy, but bright day.

She was married to the very mild-mannered Willie J. Adams.  They cherished an enjoyable marriage, together with their two sons and grandchildren.  Maurice acted as her caregiver-administering her medications while she was at home.  Both Maurice and his brother, Donnell exemplified total loyalty to their mother, as did Gregory.  Preceding her in death were two brothers, Sherman and Amin (Brownie, Jr.)

“Bert” was a baptized and faithful member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Ridgeway, SC where she served many years with the Missions Ministry under the leadership of the late Reverend T. G. Chisolm.  She later transferred her membership to Word, Spirit and Faith Church, also in Ridgeway, SC where she served on the Missions Ministry, the Inspirational Choir and the Women’s Retreat Committee.   She was grateful to be acknowledged as “Church Mother” and was one of the founding members of Word, Spirit and Faith Church.

Her abilities and talents were manifested in many ways, in both the church and in the community.   She was a skilled seamstress, organizer, naturally generous and eager to share whatever she had-her self-made preserves, jelly of every flavor, other canned fruit, and her magnificent baking expertise   She was a caring friend and didn’t mind sharing her advice, even if you didn’t want it.  “Bert” enjoyed shopping, making herself beautiful, taking photographs, and traveling.   She had a special bond with Sister Mary.

She was a 1962 graduate of, what was known at the time, as “Fairfield County Training School,” Winnsboro, SC.   She also worked tirelessly with the “Annual Fairfield Alumni Committee.”  She did much work in the areas of fundraising, history, and t-shirts for her own “Harrison Family Reunion,” which is believed to be the second largest African American Reunion in the nation.

Her other work experience was with Charm Corporation, Hon Company, Mack Truck Security Guard and Walmart, Incorporated.  Following an injury at Walmart where she was not at-fault, she never completely recovered.  After the injury, her health took a downward spiral.

“Bert” did not fear death, but instead looked to death as a welcome friend-she was ready to enter the glittering light of glory, because her greatest honor was to serve God to her maximum potential.

This chapter of her earthly life is finished and her legacy will live forever.
