Donald Wood

Mr. Donald Wood, 58, of 451 Veterans Row Elgin, South Carolina died Monday, March 17, 2024  at  Unihealth Post - Acute Care- Tanglewood,   Ridgeway, South Carolina.

Funeral services for Mr. Wood will be held Saturday, March 22, 2014, 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Viewing will be held Friday, March 21, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.  Interment will be in the Mt. Sinai AME Church Cemetery, 718 Smyrna Church Road, Elgin, South Carolina 29045.

Donald "Donnie" Wood was born to the late Victor Harris, Sr. and Phyllis Wood Floyd on September 21, 1955 in the rural area of Kershaw County and the town formerly known as Blaney and renamed Elgin, South Carolina. He was reared in the home of his adored grandparents, the late Philip and Annie Glenn Wood.  They instilled early in his life a strong spiritual faith, family values, education and a dedicated work ethic.  He attended the Kershaw County Public Schools.  He was employed by DuPont De Nemours, now Invista, for numerous years and later retired due to a decline in his health from Carolina Ceramics 2011.

Family and friends, we welcome you this afternoon to a service of remembrance and farewell as we reflect upon the life of Donald "Donnie" Wood.  There is honor in a well-lived-life --- there is healing in remembering…there is hope in knowing his love goes on forever. Think of all that you shared and the joy of your time together and the love that connected you. Those memories are just for us to remember as time goes on, to help ease our sorrow, and lead the way to peace.

Under the aura of indefinable presences and loved ones, including with his loving sisters, brother and caring cousins on Monday, 17 March, 2014 6:44 p.m. at Uni-Health Post Acute Care-Tanglewood of Fairfield County, Donald Wood transcended the streams of time and entered into the ethereal realms of eternal rest.  God with His almighty power stepped out on the shores of salvation and whispered, “Well done thy good and faithful servant…You have fought a good fight.”
Donnie, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, shared his heart and love with each of us in his own unique way. We all knew Donnie in different ways but we all knew him as a kind, giving and special person. We will all take with us our memories of Donnie tinkering with his cars and will take with us our memories of him as it is his way of living on in our lives.  

As time moves on into eternity, the unforgettable memories of his deeds shall remain in the hearts of his cherished survivors; three devoted and loving sisters, Patricia W. (Joe) Counts of Conway, South Carolina, Vivian W. (John) Hardy of Washington, DC, and Barbara Wood of Conway, South Carolina; one caring brother Mitchell (Laverne) Wood of Salisbury, North Carolina;  three aunts, Katie Mae Wood of Elgin, South Carolina, Mildred H. Tutt of Sacramento, California, and Ethel Harris of Jacksonville, Florida; one uncle,  Sam Wright of Elgin, South Carolina; two great- aunts, Daisy Lyles of Elgin, South Carolina and Mamie Wood of  Columbia, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, close knit cousins, other family, friends and neighbors who already miss him dearly.

In Revelation 22, God speaks to us "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end…."  As each of us are born into a life with Christ,  he is there to accept us at the beginning, so Christ is there to accept us at the end of our earthly lives to lead us to life eternal. We have lost a dear brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and family member who will be truly missed;  but let us remain joyful and find comfort in knowing that he has left us safely in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom he became the loving Donnie that we all knew.

So in conclusion, his family, friends and community celebrates the life of Donald "Donnie" Wood but not in sadness and grief; but in the confidence that he is at peace in the Lord.  Scripture tells us to be "Absent from the Body is to be Present with the Lord" like our childhood bedtime prayer. "If I should Die before I Wake, I pray the Lord My Soul to Take". He transitioned from mortal life to immortality resting in eternal life.

Donnie we love you. Rest in peace.
