Obituary

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day:  and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”  II Timothy 4:7-8

Dwaine Alexander Jackson was born September 12, 1964 in Columbia, South Carolina to Vivian Williams Jackson and the late David Alexander Jackson.

He was educated in the Public Schools of Richland County, graduating from W.J. Keenan High School in 1982.  He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Winston-Salem State University and furthered his education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University where he received a Master of Science in Adult Education.

At an early age, Dwaine received Christ as his Personal Savior and was baptized at Zion Canaan Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina.  He became a member of Phillips Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where he served as Trustee, sang on the Male Chorus, was active in the Men’s Ministry, and served as a driver for the Van Ministry, which provided transportation for many worshippers to get to God’s House.

Dwaine’s work career began in 1987 as a police officer for the Winston-Salem Police Department and continued as a deputy with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department.  He also worked as a coach at several secondary schools in the Winston-Salem area.  In 2010, he proudly returned to Winston-Salem State University, his alma mater, as an Assistant Defensive Line Coach.  His most recent employment was as a Case Manager in the Human Services Field educating and empowering the Developmental Disabled client population.  He also was the owner of Triad’s Best Cleaning Service.

Dwaine enjoyed all aspects of athletic events and activities; however, football was his passion.  His enshrinement with the 2000 CIAA Football Championship Team into the WSSU Clarence “Big House” Gaines Athletic Hall of Fame 2010 Class was truly a testimony to the University’s motto:  “Enter to Learn and Depart to Serve.”

Dwaine was also a member of Salem Lodge #139 (PHA) and was a very active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

On June 28, 2015, Dwaine peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home at Agape’ Hospice House in Columbia, South Carolina.  He was preceded to heaven by his father, David A. Jackson, his grandparents, and many memorable aunts and uncles.

To know Dwaine was to love him, and fond and endearing memories will forever be in the hearts of his loving mother, Vivian Williams Jackson; his devoted brother and sister-in-law, Dwight Edward (Brenda) Jackson, Sr.; nephews, Dwight, Jr. “Dejj” and Brendan Jackson; “sister-in-love” and niece, Ja’Tana Jackson and Si’Mone Jackson; god sister, Monica Parks; aunts, Edna Gregg, Alberta Williams, and Eula (George) Stokes; uncle, Walter Jackson; loving cousins who were like sisters and brothers; and a host of caring friends, all of who are saddened by his passing, but rejoice now that he is “In God’s Loving Care.”
