In the early hours of Saturday July 25, 2015, heaven became an even more beautiful place because God called our Daddy home to be with Him.

On July 13, 1933, Lyles Givens and Addie Smith were blessed with a handsome baby boy…our Daddy, George Woodrow Miller.  He was the youngest of 16 children, all of whom preceded him in death.

Our Daddy grew up in York County, South Carolina where his brothers and sisters all doted on him.  He attended York County Public Schools during the late 30s and early 40s.  His most important lesson was taught from his older brothers and sisters and that lesson was the importance of being a hard-worker…”By the time I was 16, I could work any man’s job”, a quote he passed down to his own grandchildren.

At the age of 18, Daddy came down to Fairfield County to help construct what is now Highway 321 and it was then that he met and fell in love with our mother, his “Jane”-Elise Chambers.  They were married in 1954 and that union was blessed with six beautiful children.

Our Daddy went on to serve his country in the United States Army.  During his time in the military, he fought for his country in the Korean War.  He received an Honorable Discharge and returned to the United States in 1956.  Once he returned home, he continued to work hard to provide for his growing family.  He had several jobs including working at Fairfield Memorial Hospital, Winnsboro Veneer Plant, Daniel Construction, Chrysler Airtemp, Standard Products, and finally Louis Rich, where he retired after working there for 18 years.

Our Daddy loved God and in 1958 he met his dear friend, Foyce Mackey, who introduced him to Christ.  He became a Christian and together, as a family, we joined The Church of God of Prophecy.  As a member,  he served as an usher and a deacon for many years.  He was a true man of God.  His love for Christ and commitment to the church is a major part of the legacy he left for his family.

In addition to family and church, our Daddy loved his community.  He was always one of the first voters at the poll during election season.  As he grew older, he was often spotted over-looking local construction or as we call it “being nosey!”  He faithfully made his weekly trip to the Dollar General and Bo’s Barbershop for a haircut.  He also did his part to help the environment by going “green” long before it was popular- he made us wash and re-use all paper plates and aluminum foil!

After his retirement, he owned and operated Miller’s Daycare where he was known by all of his babies as “Pa-Pa”.  All in all we had a good Daddy that truly loved God, his family, his friends, and his community.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a wife of 60 years,  Elise Chambers Miller, his children, George (Loretha) Miller, Joyce (Peppermint) Miller, Gregory (Lesha) Miller, Kenneth (Patchell) Miller, and Tonya (James) Goodwin all of Winnsboro SC;  twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; two sisters- in-law,  Mamie (Earl) Bonner and Mary Starks of Winnsboro SC; four aunts-in-law,  Margaret Mickens of Baltimore, MD, Claudia Nelson of Norfolk, VA, Emma Cooper and Annie Mae Chambers, both of Winnsboro, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews that will miss him forever.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Ricky Miller and his dear mother-in-law, Catherine Brooks.  Those of us that are left behind will treasure his memories always and those that have greeted him in heaven will rejoice with him for eternity.
