Gertrude Squirewell

The Management and Support Staff of Nelson's Funeral Home  regretfully announce the death of Mrs. Gertrude Squirewell, 67, of 40 Biblelight Church Road, Ridgeway, South Carolina.  Mrs. Squirewell died at Providence Hospital, Columbia, South Carolina, March 24, 2015.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015, 1:00 p.m., at Nelson's Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in Biblelight Holiness Church Cemetery Ridgeway South Carolina.  Public viewing will be held Friday, March 27, 2015, 2:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Gertrude Edger Squirewell was born December 14, 1947 in Ridgeway, South Carolina.  She was the second daughter of the late James and Amelia Edger.  Gertrude peacefully departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.

Sister Gertrude Squirewell accepted God’s Plan of Salvation and was a faithful member of Bible Light Holiness Church in Ridgeway, South Carolina.   She served diligently as a choir member and Deaconess.  She was educated in the Fairfield County Public Schools and she attended Allen University.

She was united in marriage to James A. Squirewell on December 28, 1969.  To this union, two daughters were born. 

Mrs. Squirewell’s culinary expertise was evident early in her career.  She was Cafeteria Manager and later she became the Instructor of Culinary Arts at the Career Center in Winnsboro, South Carolina.  She retired from the School District after 28 years of service.

Gertrude Squirewell, affectionately known as Aunt Gert, will always be remembered for her loving character and seemingly endless supply of love, hugs and thoughtfulness.

Left to cherish her memories are her loving and caring husband of 45 years, James Arthur Squirewell; two daughters, Carla (Joey) Briggs and Calanda Squirewell both of Columbia, South Carolina; two sisters, Geraldine (Marion) Martin, Jr. of Ridgeway, South Carolina and Margaret (Dale) Ulmer of Columbia, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Krystal Briggs, Joi Briggs, Jacara Briggs and Joey Briggs, Jr.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, and loving and caring relatives and friends.

Mrs. Squirewell was preceded in death by two siblings, James Herman Edger and Shirley Y. Bowman.
