The Management and Support Staff of Nelson's Funeral  Home, LLC sadly announce the death of Mr. John Henry Jones Jr., 86 of Columbia,South Carolina. 

Mr. Jones departed his earthly life Friday, December 25, 2015 at his residence

Funeral services for Mr. John Henry Jones Jr., 86 of Columbia, South Carolina (The Meadow Lakes Community) will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015, 12:00 noon at Gunter's Chapel Baptist Church, 1631 Windover Street,  Columbia, South Carolina.

Interment will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery Columbia, South Carolina.

Mr. Jones body may be publicly view Wednesday, December 30, 2015, 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 270 North Dogwood Ave.,  Ridgeway, South Carolina.

On December 25, 2015, Mr. John H. Jones, Jr. received his call from the Lord and peacefully left his earthly home to join his Heavenly Father. 

Mr. John H. Jones, Jr. was born on July 3, 1929, in Edgefield, South Carolina to the late John H. Jones, Sr. and Nellie McDaniel Jones.  He was educated in the Public Schools of Richland County and he was inducted into the United States Army on February 14, 1945.  During his tenure in the Army, he received the following medals:  World War II Victory Medal, Occupational Medal (Japan), Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead.  John was also a member of Henry Williams Lodge #024. 

John was a family-oriented man and he never missed a family function.  When he was not at family functions, you could find him playing solitaire or solving crossword puzzles.  John never met a stranger and was loved by all he came in contact with. 

John was married to the late Pearlie Mae Howard and from that union two children were born. 

John later married Bernetta A. Jones and from that union ten children were born. 

Those left to cherish his fond memories are his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Bernetta A. Jones; three sons, John Henry (Debbie) Jones, III of West Palm Beach, FL, Michael (Lydia) Jones and Thomas Jones  of Columbia, SC; eight daughters, Julia J. Hall of Charlotte, NC,  Cheryl Javis, Joan Goodwin, Conchitha Jones, Pearl Alford, Iris Jones, LaRhonda Jones and Octavia  Jones all of Columbia, SC; thirty grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mattie P. Counts of Columbia, SC; one sister-in-law, Robbie A. Walker of Winnsboro, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends whom will miss him dearly. 

John was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Deborah Jordan; one sister, Nancy M. Jones and two grandsons.
