The  Management and Support Staff of Nelson's Funeral Home sadly announce the death of Mrs. Rudine Simpson, 91, of Ridgeway, South Carolina.

Mrs.  Simpson departed her earthly life on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. 

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 20, 2016, 4:00 p.m. at St. Mark Baptist Church, 4118 State Hwy 34 E, Ridgeway, South Carolina.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  

Public viewing will be held Friday, August 19, 2016, 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Rudine Richardson Simpson, 91, was born in Fairfield County, SC on March 27, 1925 to the late Charlie Richardson and Carrie Rose Graham Richardson.  She was the sixth of eight children and now she is the last person having reached the “LEAF OF LIFE” position on her Parents’ Earthly Family Tree.  She departed this earthly life on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. 

Rudine attended schools in Fairfield County, SC.  At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and she became a member and was later baptized at St. Mark Baptist Church in Ridgeway, SC.  Rudine married the late Henry Simpson on November 23, 1941.  From this union, there were nine children, five sons and four daughters. 

WORK:  Rudine was a dedicated homemaker who did not work outside the home until after her last child had started pre-school.  At that time, Rudine’s first full-time job was at the Dry Cleaners Services in West Columbia, SC where she worked from 1964 thru 1965.  She then worked and later retired after 21 years, from the SC Department of Disability and Special Needs. 

CHURCH AFFILIATIONS:  Rudine served in many capacities at St. Mark Baptist Church.   She was the Mother Leader, member of the Missionary Society, Golden Age Member and the Oldest Female Church Member for 2016. 

Rudine was active in planning both the Richardson and the Simpson family reunions.   She served as the treasurer of the Richardson Family Reunion for five years and she was recognized as the Family Values Preserver at the Simpson Family Reunion.  

Rudine is survived by four daughters:  Dianne Simpson (Caregiver) of Ridgeway, SC/Stone Mountain, GA; Ruthetta (John Harry) Shannon of Ridgeway, SC, Bernice Simpson of Columbia, SC, and Dorothy Simpson Cornelius of Blythewood, SC;  four Sons: Ernest (Marjorie) Simpson of Tillery, NC, Willie James “WJ” Simpson of Baltimore, MD, Freddie L. (Randy) Simpson of Blythewood, SC, and Curtis (Patricia) Simpson of Ridgeway, SC;  daughter-in-law,  Margaret Simpson of Ridgeway, SC; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; eight great-great- grandchildren; her sister-in-law, David Simpson of Ridgeway, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends. 

Rudine was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Simpson; son, John Henry Simpson; seven siblings Isabelle Richardson, Estelle Richardson Starks Smith, Charlie Bell Richardson, Mary Richardson Gillard Outen, James Richardson, Willie Horace Richardson, Sr. and CJ Richardson; grandson Maurice Antonio “Tony” Simpson; granddaughter, Melissa Reshawn Simpson; son-in-law, Charlton Cornelius, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Gloria Armstrong Simpson.
