There is an inevitable hour of peace that comes to everyone. The hour came to Agnes Kennedy Gillard. She made her transition into eternal life on April 13, 2012.
She was born Agnes Kennedy on February 6, 1923 to the late Cornelius (Mood) and Ebenezer Ashford Kennedy in Simpson, South Carolina. She was educated in the Fairfield County School System and received training and certifications in the mental health profession.
Agnes was a very strong and personable woman. She was an inspiration to many. She displayed unconditional love for family and friends. She loved cooking and always made extra for the love ones dropping in. Agnes enjoyed making ceramic pieces, fishing, thrift shopping, and shopping for antiques.
Agnes loved people and had a gift of easily making friends. She was always willing to help in any way she could and was loved by all that knew her. She was the Founder of the Charity Workers Club in Ridgeway, South Carolina. On July 16, 2011, she was awarded “The Matriarch of Our Family Plaque” at the Kennedy Family Reunion in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Agnes worked at Midlands Center for Retardation for 28 years where she faithfully and caringly executed her job. She received many awards and certificates for outstanding work. Upon retirement, she received the “Merit Recognition Award” for her dedication.
During her youth, she joined St. Mark Baptist Church and was a faithful member until she was no longer able to attend services. During which time, she sang on the Church Choir and served as Mother of the Church. She loved the Lord and praised him to the highest.
To her husband, she was a loving wife. To her children, she was a devoted mother. She was united in holy matrimony to her devoted husband of sixty-three (63) years, Ulysses Gillard. To this union, three children were born; Howard (Bessie) Gillard of Ridgeway, South Carolina, Mary (Robert) Sims of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Edward (Linda) Gillard of Columbia, South Carolina. In addition to her husband and children, she leaves to cherish her memories two sisters, Eva Armstrong of Winnsboro, South Carolina and Inez Reeves of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, thirteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and a host of other loving and caring nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends.

Miss Agnes worked with me at Midlands Center as my first shift supervisor. I could not have asked for a more dedicated, loving, strong lady who truly made a difference, not only with her clients, but with her staff. She was loved by all. Heaven has gained an angel who will continue to spread joy and love. With deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Miss Agnes.

To the entire family of Agnes; a loving and cheerful voice has been quieted on this earth, but her voice will forever be heard in Heaven. I know that she is making everyone about her laugh. I know that she is singing once again in that Heavenly choir. I can just see her now sitting around all of her family who has gone before her telling them how wonderful it is to reunite. To her husband, children. grand-childern, great grand''s, and great great-grand childern, and to all of the other realitives that she left behind, you will always have a precious memory to cherish. God''s comfort to all of you.
