It is with profound sadness that Eddie & Jackie Nelson and the Support Staff of Nelson's Funeral Home, LLC announce the death of Mrs. Alberta Simmons, 83, of Blythewood, South Carolina.
Mrs. Simmons transitioned away peacefully Monday morning, June 11 2018, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, June 17, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at New Revelation Baptist Church,1131 North Firetower Road, Blythewood, South Carolina, 29016. Interment will follow in Rehoboth Baptist Church (old site) Cemetery Ridgeway, South Carolina.
Ms. Simmons will be available for public viewing Saturday, June 16, 2018, 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home 270 N. Dogwood Ave. Ridgeway, South Carolina 29130.
Mrs. Alberta Simmons was born August 22, 1934 to the late Ida Nelson. She departed her life on Monday morning, June 11, 2018 at the age of 83.
She attended the Public Schools of Kershaw County. After high school, she moved to New York to seek employment. She was employed at St. Joseph Hospital in Far Rockaway, NY for 38 years. After retiring, she returned to Blythewood, SC where she lived with her sister Christine Solomon and her brother-in-law, Charles Solomon.
Mrs. Simmons became a member of Rehoboth Baptist church where she sang on the Gaymon Gospel Choir. After a number of years at Rehoboth, she moved her membership to New Revelation Baptist Church where she served as an usher until her health declined.
Those left to cherish fond memories are three sons, Eugene (Dorothy) Nelson of Elgin, SC, Joseph Simmons of Long Island, NY and Dartadnan Simmons of Virginia; four sisters, Ida Mae (Donald) Lampkin, Christine (Charles) Solomon, Brenda B. Davis and Lenore (Kevin) Reese; six brothers, Reverend Joe Albert (Mary) Bush, Henry Bush, Roscoe Bush, Frank Bush, Carnell (Helen) Bush and Johnny (Carolyn) Bush; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Nelson, two sisters and two brothers.
