Bettye Green Obituary

It is with our deepest sympathy that Eddie and Jackie Nelson and the Support Staff of Nelson's Funeral Home announce the death of Mrs. Bettye Anne Green, 76, of Winnsboro, South Carolina.  

Mrs. Green departed her earthly life Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Palmetto Richland Hospital Columbia, South Carolina. 

Services will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2018; 11:00 a.m. at Long Creek Church of Christ , 720 Longtown Road, Columbia, South Carolina.  Ms. Green will be placed in the church one hour before the service for public viewing.  Public viewing will be Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bettye Anne Green, 76, was called home on Wednesday, August 8, 2018. She was born July 18, 1942 to the late Thomas Willie Jackson, Jr. and Edna Mae Lyles Jackson. She was a caring and loving daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She was a member of North Fort Church of Christ. 

Bettye attended Edmondson High School in Baltimore, Maryland and was a member of the girls’ swim team. She returned to Winnsboro, South Carolina to finish her high school education at Fairfield High School. She was the captain of the girls’ basketball team there as well. Upon her return to Maryland after graduation from high school, she became manager of two retail stores. 

Bettye was concerned with social injustices, and, as a result, participated in the 1963 March on Washington. Eventually, she returned to Winnsboro, South Carolina and worked in manufacturing for a number of years before transitioning into the healthcare field. 

She enjoyed watching TV, listening to music and spending time with her family. 

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Feaster of Columbia, SC; her son, Bobby (Michelle) Green of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Shakeeta (Bradley) Williams of Greer, SC, Thomas (Tyronda) Feaster, III of Columbia, SC, DeAndre Green of Winnsboro, SC and Joshua Green of Columbia, SC; six great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Williams, Mason Williams, Logan Feaster, Marley Williams, Harley Feaster and Makayla Williams; one brother, Bobby (Eloise) Jackson of Rosedale, MD and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. 

Bettye was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Green, her son, Thomas Green and her grandson, Jeremy Davis.
