Mr. Nick Canty, affectionately known as “Top” was born November 23, 1949 and departed this earthly life on May 26, 2018 at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC. He was the son of James Gladney and the late Jessie Canty Belton of Ridgeway, SC.
Nick attended the Public Schools of Fairfield County until he began his first job as an electrician at Fairfield Electric Coop. He left this occupation to start his logging business where he worked until he became ill in 2004. He enjoyed working, fishing, watching cowboy shows, driving his pick-up truck, and spending time with family and friends. On a leisurely day, you could find Nick sitting at The Corner Store with one of his signature baseball caps catching up with friends.
Nick was a quiet man but had a GREAT BIG SMILE and an even bigger HEART. He was very kind to everyone and would never complain about anything.
He leaves to cherish warm and fond memories his wife, Mrs. Viola Canty of Winnsboro, SC; one daughter, Melissa (Marvin) Rolle of Waxhaw, NC; one son, Samuel (Speedy) Weldon, one nephew (raised in the home as a son), Kenny Jordon of Columbia, SC, and one Godson, Gregory Weldon of Winnsboro, SC; his step-father, Alexander Belton, Sr.; two brothers, Alexander (Lois) Belton, Jr. and Hampton L. Belton, and one aunt, Sadie Thomas of Winnsboro, SC and two uncles, Jason Canty and John (Lettie) Canty of Winnsboro, SC; three brothers-in-laws, Pete (Amy) Durham, James Durham, Freddie (LaTeisha) Jordon; two sisters-in-law, Lizzie Young and Florie (Leon) Jordon; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who loved him dearly.
In addition to his parents, Nick was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Belton and one aunt, Lucy C. Adams.
