It is with our deepest sympathy that Eddie and Jackie Nelson and the Support Staff of Nelson's Funeral Home announce the death of Mr. Roland Hayes Harrison, 80, of Winnsboro, South Carolina.
Mr. Harrison transitioned into eternity Monday, July 23, 2018, at WJB Dorn VA Hospital Columbia, South Carolina.
Funeral services for Mr. Harrison will be held Saturday, July 28, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at White Oak Baptist Church #1, 520 White Oak Church Road, Winnsboro, SC 29180. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held Friday, July 27, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 5:45 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Roland Hayes Harrison was born on August 11, 1937 in Winnsboro, SC to the late Dan R. “Bus” Harrison and Beulah Casion Harrison. He departed this life on July 23, 2018, with his family by his side at WJB Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia, SC.
Roland attended the Fairfield County Public Schools. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for a total of 22 years. Following his service in the United States Navy, he attended Benedict College in Columbia, SC. He spent the majority of his years as a servant in organizations. At an early age, he joined White Oak Baptist Church #1 in Winnsboro, SC. At White Oak, he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons. Roland was also a member of The Flinthill Lodge #236 where he served as Worshipful Master and Secretary. He was also a member of the O. E. S. Wide Awake Eastern Star Chapter #142.
Roland leaves his fond memories to be cherished by: two daughters, Gwendolyn Harrison Conner (Jimmy) of Columbia, SC and Sabrina Bates (Antwane) Little of Columbia, SC; his former wife, Ella B. Loynes Harrison; two brothers, Clayton Harrison of Jonesboro, GA and Dan (Elnora) R. Harrison Jr. of Hollywood, SC; four sisters, Ethel (Harold) V. Zimmerman of Baltimore, MD, Missouri (Joe) Scott of Augusta, GA, Marva Chapple of Seat Pleasant, MD and Adell (Russell) Harris of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Ashely S. Conner, Eryn M. Conner, Maya B. Bates and Harrison C. Little; one great-grand child, Kayden A. Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Jason Harrison; two sisters, Rose Bennett and Ernestine Henry.
