Elaine Gadson Obituary

The management (Eddie & Jackie Nelson) and the support staff of Nelson's Funeral Home sadly announce the passing of Mrs. Elaine Gadson, of South Carolina.  Mrs. Gadson transitioned into eternity Monday, June 9, 2025, peacefully at her residence surrounded by her beloved and devoted family, who will miss her presence.

Mrs. Essie Elaine Gadson was born August 20, 1955 in Columbus, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Lula Jeanette Zanders and James Edward Jackson.

Elaine worked as a correctional officer until retiring as a lieutenant from Walden Correctional Institution. There she began a ministry for the inmates to learn the Bible and ways to repent. Elaine believed in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she worked with many ministries.  She also fed the less fortunate, baked cakes for those who needed a smile, gave advice to those who needed it, and held some hands through some hard times.  She was helpful to many and stern to others.

Those who will forever cherish the memories are her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Ray Charles Gadson; one daughter, Regina Zanders of  Columbia, SC and two granddaughters, Kierrah and Portia Daniels, both of Columbia, SC;  three sisters, Theresa (Larry) Tolbert of Hepzibah, GA, Emily Spears of  Columbus, GA, Darlene Williams of Mobile, AL; one brother,  Kenneth Spears of Atlanta, GA; three brothers-in-law,  James Gadson of Hartford, CT, Oren Gadson, and Riley Gadson of  Winnsboro, SC;  one uncle;  a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

“And I heard a voice from Heaven saying unto me Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours and their works do follow them.”  Revelation 14:13
