“Little did we know, the day that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home”.

On behalf of the management (Eddie and Jackie Nelson) and the support staff of Nelson’s Funeral Home, it is with heartfelt sympathy that we extend our condolences and gratitude to the family of Mr.  Ervin Belk, 90, of Winnsboro, South Carolina. Mr. Belk transitioned out of time into eternity Tuesday morning June 6, 2023.

Ervin Belk, the son of the late Herbert Chalmers and Mamie Mattie Belle Miles Belk was born in Fairfield County, SC and lived all his life either in the country or in the town Winnsboro, SC. Ervin passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, just 10 days after his 90th birthday.

Ervin was a retired federal employee who loved to fish and hunt.  He also enjoyed having cookouts at his home for his friends and family.  Ervin also got a lot of pleasure working on many projects with several different churches in the area.  He loved tending his scuppernong arbor and sharing the fruit with his friends.

Ervin was the last surviving of twelve children. Preceding him in death were his brothers, Earl Eugene, Daril Shanon, Clyde H., James, Frank, Herbert Chalmers, David, and H.C. and his sisters, Myrtle Iola Belk, Hazel Viola Belk Isenhower, and Grace Belk Johnson.  Ervin liked to laugh and tell people he had no middle name because when his parents got to him, they had run out of boy names.

Ervin is survived by three children, Thomas Ervin (Angie) Belk, Joel Gregory (Robyn) Belk, and Karen Belk (Randy) Silvia; his grandchildren are: Adam (Nikki), Christopher, Jonah and Shane Belk, Tangela (James) Fowler, Wayne (Meredith) and Laotha Burton, Brent (Hannah) Silvia and Hannah (Christian) Carter; his great-grandchildren are: Lexi and TJ Belk, Nadia Hope, Sutton and Brynnleigh Fowler, Jacob and Tanner Burton and Mary Blythe Silvia.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
