The loss of a loved one is a heart- wrenching experience. It is with profound sadness that we, the management (Eddie & Jackie Nelson) and the support staff of Nelson’s Funeral Home announce the passing of Mrs. Melanie Barns Edwards,55, of Camden, South Carolina.

Mrs. Edwards transitioned into eternity on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

Ms. Melanie Barnes Edwards was born on October1, 1968, to Lonnie G. Barnes, Jr. and Katie Mondell Bennett Barnes in New Rochelle, New York.

Melanie graduated from Iona University in New Rochelle, NY receiving her undergraduate degree and master’s degree in education.  She began her career as an educator for the State of New York, and worked there until she moved her family to Camden, SC.  Once in Camden, she continued her career at the Jackson School where she taught for 13 years until her retirement due to her illness.

Melanie leaves her two sons, Richard Barnes and Joshua Barnes Edwards, along with a host of cousins.  All will miss her smile and her gift of conversation.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, Richard Bennett and Gustavers Wood Bennett of Lugoff, SC and Lonnie G. Barnes, Sr. and Annie Barnes Hines of Wilson, NC.
