It is with profound sadness that the management (Eddie & Jackie Nelson) regretfully announce the passing of Ms. Sonya Kennedy, 64, of Winnsboro, South Carolina.  Ms. Kennedy passed Thursday, January 16, 2025.

Sonya Kennedy, a beloved daughter, friend, mentor, and pillar of her community.  Sonya departed this life peacefully leaving behind a legacy of service, leadership and love that touched countless lives.

Sonya was a proud alumna of Tuskegee University, where she shined both on and off the basketball court. As a student-athlete, Sonya's dedication and skill earned her admiration and respect. She later served as a coach at her alma mater. 

Sonya was equally devoted to education. She poured her heart into teaching, shaping young minds in Michigan, Georgia and Fairfield County.  Her classrooms were not just places of learning but spaces of encouragement and possibility, reflecting her unwavering belief in the power of education to transform lives.

A woman of deep faith she was involved in her church. Sonya has a special love for people. Her kindness and generosity left an indelible mark of all who knew her.

Funeral services for Ms. Kennedy will be held Friday, January 24, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church, 207 N. Garden Street, Winnsboro, SC 29180.  Interment will follow in Fairfield Memorial Cemetery, Smalls Chapel Road, Winnsboro, SC 2918.   

Public viewing will be held Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 5:15 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
