It is with profound sorrow that the Management and Support Staff of Nelson's Funeral Home, LLC  announce the death of Mrs. Amanda Yvonne Canty, 59, of Columbia, South Carolina. 

Mrs. Canty departed her earthly life Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia, South Carolina.

Mrs. Canty was the wife of Mr. Leroy Canty. 

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2016, 1:00 p.m. at Nelson's Funeral Home Chapel, 270 N. Dogwood Ave., Ridgeway, South Carolina.  Interment will follow in Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery,  Winnsboro, South Carolina. 

Public viewing of Mrs. Canty will be Tuesday, August 9, 2016, 2:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

On Thursday, August 4, 2016, God gave his angel, Amanda Yvonne Price Canty, known to family and friends as “Von“  her angel wings.  “Von” was born in Winnsboro, South Carolina on August 31, 1956 to the late Amos and Delois Squirewell Price.

She graduated from Winnsboro High School in the Class of 1974.  She went on to further her education at Professional Training Institute earning a Medical Assistant Degree.   She also received her cosmetology license from Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology, where she later became the director. “Von” worked various jobs prior to becoming part owner and proprietor of Amanda’s Hair Studio in Winnsboro, South Carolina and of LA’s Beauty and Barbering School in Columbia, South Carolina.

Approximately 35 years ago, “Von” married her high school sweetheart, Leroy Canty and to this beautiful union, they became the proud parents of three children: Rosetta, Winter, William Leroy and one goddaughter, Adrianna Sox.

At an early age, “Von” accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.   She was gifted with many talents including caring for people, sewing, and decorating.  Her love for children was her passion.  She loved planning and organizing family functions. As recent as February of this year, “Von” and Leroy hosted at their home, their Great Aunt Alice’s 100th Birthday celebration who passed away last month.

“Von” leaves to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted husband, Leroy; two daughters, Rosetta and Winter; one son, William Leroy; and goddaughter, Adrianna Sox; her father-in-law and mother in-law, John and Lettie Canty of Winnsboro, South Carolina; five uncles:  Sonnie Trapp of Columbia, South Carolina, Earl (Sandra) Johnson of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ernest (Sandy) Squirewell, Jr.  of West Columbia, South Carolina, Jason Canty of Winnsboro, South Carolina and Boykin Durham of Ridgeway, South Carolina; six aunts: Sallie Mae Bell of Winnsboro, South Carolina, Karen (Odell) Peoples and Sheila (James) Outing of Charlotte, North Carolina, Catherine Pope and Sally (Frank) Canzater of Ridgeway, South Carolina and Sadie Thomas of Winnsboro, South Carolina; one great aunt, Mattie L. Squirewell of Winnsboro, South Carolina; four brothers-in-law:  John Canty Jr. of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Odell (Lisa), Melvin and Tony of Winnsboro, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Jean (Randolph) Ashford and Carolyn (Rev. Earl P.) Stringfellow of Winnsboro, South Carolina; a Special Cousin/Friend and Confidant, Delphine Covington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
